Cincinnati Tournament ATP Masters 1000 || Carreño Continues 'On Fire'

The Spanish Pablo Carreño Busta, seventh seed, made it to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati tournament, ATP Masters 1000, by beating the Polish Hubert Hurkacz , ninth, 7-6 (6) and 7-6 (3) favorite, in what was the first professional duel between the two.

Carreño's triumph, a bronze medalist in Tokyo 2020, came after two hours and 12 minutes of the game, in which the Spanish tennis player did not have his best work with the serve, quite the opposite of what happened with Hurkacz, who he came back from an adverse 0-3 in the second set after giving up the only break of the match.

But in the end, Carreño's best game in the exchanges of blows from the back of the court, and the rest in the decisive goals made the difference in his favor. Now, Carreño's rival will be Russian Daniil Medvedev, the first seed, who easily beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-3.

Spanish women's tennis was this Thursday without the presence of Garbine Muguruza , eighth seed, in the Cincinnati WTA Masters 1000 tournament, losing in three sets 6-1, 6-7 (5) and 6-2 against Czech Barbara Krejcikova, ninth favorite.

The power of the serve of Krejcikova , 25 years old, tenth in the world ranking, made the difference against a Muguruza who again showed inconsistency in her game from the back of the court and never had a response in the exchange of blows.

Muguruza, who faced Krejcikova for the second time, the first was also this year in Dubai, where she won, she held out well in the third set until 3-2 when in the sixth game she lost her serve again, which was her heel of Achilles throughout the game - four aces and three double faults - and there the chances of achieving victory were over.

In other results of the fourth day within the women's competition, the two Grand Slam champions, the Australian Ashleigh Barty, first seed, and the German Angelique Kerber, achieved the pass to the quarterfinals with their respective triumphs against the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.
